How To Be A Successful Math Student

Come To Class Prepared
Successful students are prepared for class.  Having the following items will mean that you are not wasting time in class.  The following items are needed every day:

PencilRed PenDry Erase MarkerRuler
Composition BookTextbookHomework Planner

Do Your Homework
Doing homework gives you an opportunity to practice what you are learning and see what you need more time to understand. The odd answers are in the back of the book if you want to check you are completing the work correctly. After you have written out you work you can also check you answer with a calculator.

Read The Next Lesson In The Textbook The Night BEFORE Class
It only takes 5 minutes but reading through what you will learn in the next lesson will really help your understanding. When you are in class you will be able to make more connections and analyze what does not make sense. Then you can ask questions that not only help you but your classmates too.

Watch The Online Videos
Did you know the textbook has tutorials you can watch? Go to: www.bigideasmathvideos.com
Choose the program – “Common Core Middle School 2017”
Click on the textbook (Green = 6th grade, Red = 7th grade) then select the chapter, lesson, and example you want to review.

Ask Questions, Make Mistakes And Try Again
The best time to ask me for help is during class. We are all there to learn from each other and if you have a question, someone else in the room probably does too. After school you can come and ask me questions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Sometimes even when you have asked a question and done your homework the chapter test does not go as well as you wanted. If you earned 80% or lower, and finished your practice test on time,  you can ask me for the opportunity to retake the test.
